Chiftjian issued a statement on Thursday a day after 84 people were killed in two explosions ripping through a route leading to a cemetery in Kerman, where people had gathered to commemorate the fourth assassination anniversary of Iran’s top general Qassem Soleimani.
The bishop said that the terror attack was certainly carried out under the support of the global arrogance and coincided with the Al-Aqsa Storm Operation underway by Palestinians influenced by Soleimani’s teachings. This, he added, shows that arrogant powers are more fearful of “Martyr Soleimani” than “General Soleimani”, as the terrorist act was carried out during his commemoration ceremony.
Chiftjian extended his condolences to the families of the victims and wished recovery for the injured people whose number, according to the Iranian Health Ministry, has topped 280.
Also on Thursday, the Association of Assyrians of Urmia and nearby areas issued a statement and expressed deep regret and condemned the “heinous” terror attacks in Kerman.
